More Pumpkin Love…

I am lucky to live very close to two places I can load up on pumpkins and other squash without spending a fortune. One of them is Bastiao Farms Goblin Gardens Pumpkin Patch.

There aren't that many places where it is as appropriate to take your kids as it is to take a date. This is one of them. There is a corn maze, a bale pyramid (with 1356 bales of hay, where you can take in the best view of the farm), a mini hay maze, and on weekends there are hourly hayrides.

In the shop at Bastiao Farms you can buy decorative items like indian corn, jams, and there are a few vegetables in a cooler by the register. Don't miss their sweet corn... it's delicious and even better on the grill. I even bought one and chopped it up over a salad without cooking it at all. I also picked up a few orange bell peppers, which are normally outrageously priced in a grocery store.

Now more than ever it is so important to buy local. It's so much more of an experience to choose a pumpkin from the place where it was grown, rather than from a market that also sells sneakers or Windex or cereal. :)

There's a coupon in the Natomas Shopper for a free mini pumpkin when you visit.

Bastiao Farms is located at 3845 El Centro Rd. For more information call (916) 925-2947. They are open 10am to 7pm, 7 days a week.

Sadie loves fresh squash and yams and all that beta carotene goodness. It looked really great. We are doing some pumpkin stuff next weekend.

where on El Centro is that? I'm out that way to see my horses a couple of times a week.
