SSPCA Gala Recap…

Groovy times were had at the Sacramento SPCA Reigning Cats & Dogs Gala Saturday night. The event was hosted by KFBK radio personality Kitty O'Neal. The gala is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the SSPCA and is held annually at the convention center.

There were awesome special performances from the musical Hair, including Let the Sunshine In, Aquarius, and the musical's theme Hair.

Here are some of my personal highlights from the food and wine vendors there:

Au Lac Veggie served a stirfry dish with brown rice. A great restaurant option if I were to ever need a break from meat (though I can't imagine when this would be).

I can also say the same for Andy Nyugen. They served noodles, "chicken", cilantro, topped with rice vinegar and peanuts.

Railbridge Cellars' Jon and Jana were there pouring a their Sauvignon Blanc (one of my current faves).

Here are the guys from Pedroncelli. I had their Zinfandel as my dessert last night. It was sophisticated, not too punchy like a lot of zins out there. Great finish.

I am a big fan of Michael David wines. Specifically, the 2007 Sparkling Duet, the Incognito Pink, and the Petite Petit.

M2 Wines Old Vine Zin tentatively slated to appear on the wine list at Ten 22. Follow M2 on twitter here.

Carvalho wines Boat Shed Red! Look for their new Boat Shed Red release on November 22nd! They'll also have a bottling event November 27th & 28th.

My favorite dish of the night goes to Gonul's. They served a stew with chicken, meatballs & vegetables, and some sort of foccacia bread on the side.

Hagen's Orange Freeze was my friend's favorite dessert of the night. They had a coffee flavored freeze that was like "drinking a coffee and eating an ice cream" at the same time.

This fundraiser helps the SSPCA continue their wonderful work. Many thanks to all the hosts, performers, sponsors, vendors, & attendees.

The SSPCA is dedicated to ensuring the humane treatment of all animals in the Sacramento area. Recently, they developed an animal adoption program specifically for seniors. Also, did you know you can also become a foster parent for a shelter animal? Even if you can't adopt a pet, here are other ways you can help the SSPCA.

November 3rd, they'll have a New Volunteer Orientation, from 6-8pm. Nov 5-8th, there will be a Fall Adoptathon, 11am-6pm with reduced adoptions fees for dogs and cats! On the 7 & 8th of November, they'll hold the annual Santa Paws event from 11am-4pm. Have your pet's picture taken with Santa Claus! For more events click here. The SSPCA is located at 6201 Florin-Perkins Road, and they are open Tuesday-Sunday from 11am-6pm. You can contact them at (916) 383-7387.
