Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra to Celebrate Local Russian, Ukrainian and Armenian Communities through Music

The Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra is starting their 2010-2011 concert season with violins blazing. The Philharmonic announced today a series of events and performances to celebrate local Russian, Ukrainian and Armenian communities through music.

On Thursday, October 14 at 6:00 p.m. Tempo, the Philharmonic’s young professionals’ society, will host their first in a series of special events inspired by the Philharmonic’s musical performances.

"To Russia With Love” (A Vodka/Caviar Tasting Party) will be at Lounge ON20, 1050 20th Street, 95814

Purchase tickets at the door or online here. FREE for members (join here) or $25 for non-members.

On Saturday, Russian-Armenian violin virtuoso Mikhail Simonyan will make his debut performance with the Philharmonic performing signature pieces including Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 and Khachaturian's exhilarating Violin Concerto. The Philharmonic will also feature the American premier of the Concerto for Bandura and Orchestra #4 composed by Sacramento's own Yuriy Oliynyk and played by Ola Oliynyk. Evocative of romantic Eastern Europe, this will be played on a traditional Ukrainian folk instrument, the bandura, accompanied by the full orchestra.
