Doggie Donuts

The latest news in the Pet Food Recall is that even the dry food is contaminated. My parents used to feed the dogs table scraps all the time, and now maybe that's a better idea for a while than feeding them dog food! Anyway, here's a recipe that you can make for your dogs for them to eat during this nasty recall (and beyond).

Donuts

2 cups whole wheat flour

1 egg, slightly beaten

2/3 cup beef or chicken broth

3 Tbsp. oatmeal

1 tsp. garlic powder

Place flour in a bowl. Add egg and broth, mixing well. Blend in oatmeal
and garlic powder. Shape dough into a ball and roll out on a highly floured
surface to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into desired shapes. Re-roll scraps and
repeat until all dough is shaped. Arrange on microwavable plate, wax
paper, or parchment paper. Microwave on HIGH for 8 to 10 minutes or until
firm. Let cool until hardened.

Frosting

1/2 cup Organic Peanut Butter

2 tbs. chicken stock (to thin to spreading consistency)

Place hardened "donuts" on parchment paper, and lightly frost the tops.
Store in a covered container in the refrigerator.

Cool! Thanks for posting this, I will have to post about it on my blog the next time I do a dog-friendly blog! :)

You're welcome! And thanks for the welcome back a few days ago and the comment yesterday.
It's weird because I wrote the "doggie donut" recipe for the magazine BEFORE I even knew about the recall. I have had a few readers call to thank me. I swear I don't have ESP... Also, I used to make my own cat food for my kitty, Maliheh when I had her. I will post that a little later perhaps. :)
