A red blend with Petite Sirah, Primitivo and Tempranillo. Priced at $10!! Could not believe the price point on this one... Strong notes of tobacco on the nose.
For me, Boeger was the winner today overall... by far the prettiest winery in El Dorado, and they featured Z-Pie's as their food pairing. I tried the "beef fajita" variety, and J tried the "caramel pippin apple" (she is vegetarian).
I sort of have a "two bite rule" at events like these (because hardly anything is so good that I need any more than that to taste it, and I like to try one thing at each place), and I rarely ever swallow wine I am tasting, because I am more interested in trying as many as I can and buying my favorite bottle at the end. The pie was good, but not as spectacular as Z-Pie legends I have heard...I was far more impressed with the wines, because all four I tasted were better than average--Hang Town Red, Estate Zin (spicier), Walker Zin (more jammy) and Syrah Release--and the WONDERFUL layout of the tasting room and the vineyard itself.
The best food was from Thai Style Fine Dining. Kudos to their dannngg good Pa Nang...at Medroña Vineyards. They also offered Beef Satay with Peanut Sauce. Along with the Thai food, cheeseheads from Dedrick's were present and sawing off some curds. For dessert (are you stuffed yet from just reading about all the gluttony??) Madroña featured a bleu cheese and fudge brownie pairing with their barrel port (wine fortified with brandy, and too sweet for me!)
Aaaandd lastly...there were people *drinkers, not tasters I assumed ;)* dancing in the parking lot when we were leaving Medroña, so a great time was obviously had by all!
Thanks El Dorado Winery Association! It was a beautiful day.
