Brew it Up, More than Just Beer (psst: but the beer is great, too!)

As Wine and Dine week is drawing to a close, I would like to direct your attention to a restaurant in the heart of downtown Sacramento (though not a part of Wine and Dine week, but) I have always enjoyed visiting. I think at this point, pretty much all of us are trying to curb our spending, but still enjoy dining out and having drinks. Every time I have dined at Brew It Up, the food/service/value trifecta has always been above average. Not only can you brew your own beer, but there are many new specials (I'll list them below) and an updated menu to keep you coming back. Here's a bit of what I had last Wednesday night:

We started off with the shrimp ceviche and blue corn chips. If you like lime, you'll really go for this. The ceviche is a low cal alternative to a lot of the other appetizers on the menu if you don't have too many of the chips.

One of Brew It Up's signature dishes is their Original Blue Cheese Kettle Chips: Crisp potato chips drizzled with sweet balsamic gastrique, blue cheese crumbles, seasoned salt and fresh basil. The toppings on these chips really make them addictive. I dined at Brew It Up on Wednesday night, and visited their booth at Grape & Gourmet on Thursday just to sample some more of these chips. :)

I have been on a pretzel kick lately and so I love that you can order these to enjoy with your favorite beer or wine (wine, for me please). They come individual or in an order of four. Smaller than what you get at a Rivercats game, but better and cheaper. And, it comes tucked in a little napkin blanket... :)

My dining buddy ordered the Tri Tip Sandwich, which I am told is one of Brew It Up's best sellers. The BIU! Original Prime Rib Sandwich starring: shaved prime rib on toasted Vienna bread, with Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, horseradish cream and savory au jus.

Here's a pic of my Cobb salad. I am a big fan of Cobb salad. Side note/fun fact: Cobb Salad was the invention of restaurateur manager, Bob Cobb, who in 1926 at The Brown Derby restaurant in Los Angeles, California, found a way to use up leftovers. At Brew It Up, it's of course the freshest ingredients. Theirs is comprised of chopped romaine hearts topped with roasted chicken breast, chopped egg, cheddar cheese, black olives, diced tomatoes, chopped bacon, crumbled blue cheese and blue cheese dressing.

Things ended (happily) with the cheesecake, which I did not try (if you read this blog, you know I try to steer clear of sugar), but my fellow diner says "It's cheesecake, of course it's delicious."

So, let's get to those great deals I was talking about before!
Their Happy Hour runs daily from 4-6pm, 7 days a week. $1 off draft beer, house wines, well drinks & specialty cocktails. They also have $3 bar appetizers.

There's also a Late Night Happy Hour: Eat & drink after 9pm...$5 Burgers, $6 Pizzas & $10 Pitchers. Sounds like the perfect thing after a show, movie, or Rivercats game, don't you think? Save your appetite and eat for less! The burgers are 1/2 lb and the pitchers are 60oz. Yum.

Monday: Margarita Mondays! All day...$4 top shelf margaritas.

Tuesdays: $20 Tuesdays...every Tuesday...all day enjoy a Pitcher of brewery fresh beer and a pizza of your choice, for just $20.

Wine Wednesday: The reason I chose Brew It Up on a Wednesday night! Every Wednesday, from 11am–10pm, they have "better than retail" pricing on premium wines, and great deals on wines by the glass. The pinot I had on Wednesday was at least $2-$3 dollars less than it would normally be priced.

Also, find Brew It Up on restaurant.com and save even more!

A final note, if you ever spot Brew It Up having a brunch event, do not hesitate to make reservations. I went there for Easter Brunch, and it's safe to say I will be going there next year. It was the best price in town and the food was terrific.

Follow them on twitter to be informed of the latest specials, like the latest deal on a BV Napa Valley Zin...$16/btl at the table, or take home 3+ for just $10/btl. TODAY July 11th while supplies last!!

You can also become a fan on Facebook and meet with your fellow lovers of Brew It Up!
