Gingerbread House Throwdown this Sunday at 2pm. Carnival at St. Rose

This Sunday, December 20th, local culinary schools will compete in a live chef challenge on Sunday at 2 pm at the Carnival at St. Rose located at 7th & K streets.

The gingerbread house throwdown, hosted by the Downtown Sacramento Partnership, will display the aspiring talent of students from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, the Institute of Technology and The Art Institute of California – Sacramento.

The public is invited to watch the live 2-hour event at the Carnival at St. Rose while teams assemble their gingerbread masterpieces up to 2 feet high in the air. A panel of distinguished Sacramento chefs will judge the gingerbread battle including Chef Andrea Reiter of Ten22 in Old Sacramento, Chef Elaine Baker (who will be featured on this blog in an interview next week) of Grange Restaurant at The Citizen Hotel and Chef Russel Michel from the Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel. Local Sac Foodie blogger Julie Berge will host the event.

The audience will also partake in the judging process and honor a team of students with a people’s choice award. The grand prize for the winning team will be an opportunity to shadow one of judges on the job in their kitchen and earn bragging rights for their school.
