Snacks on a Plane...

Or a bus, or a train, or a car, or on the trail, or at your desk!
Skip those corn syrup and refined sugar laden 100 calorie packs. The oreo variety contains over 2 teaspoons in just one 100-calorie package (9 grams). You might as well tear open a sugar packet and open wide. No kidding. Though some are lower than others, (the wheat thins, for example, most contain about 7 grams...in a "healthy snack"). BTW, the 100-calorie pack to which I just referred contains only 1 gram of fiber.

WHAT CAN YOU DO???

Well, try THIS 100-calorie pack next time you need a snack. I like to enjoy mine on frozen yogurt. If you pack them in a little snack bags, you can even sneak them into the movies.

Cakegrrl's 100 Calorie Packs
1/2 Fiber One
1 cup Kashi Puffed 7 Grain Cereal
3/4 cup Genisoy Smart Hearts
2 Tbs carob chips
1/2 cup Gerber Graduates Freeze Dried Strawberry and Bananas
1/2 Gerber Graduates Banana Flavored
1/2 cup soy nuts
1/4 cup roasted edamame
5 cups plain popcorn (you can use on of those cute mini bags)

To be most accurate, seperate everything into groups of 10 BEFORE you put it in the snack bag.

Entire recipe was about 1000 calories, so you can divide it into 10 servings. USE A FOOD SCALE and you'll get equal snack distribution.

Lastly, toss with some kernel seasons chocolate marshmallow flavoring (adds a trivial amount of sugar) or some Swiss Miss sugar free diet cocoa mix for an extra chocolate fix (25 calories, you can toss a little in each bag).

100 calories, and only 1.5 grams of sugar per snack bag! Yeah! Also, each pack contains 4 grams fiber. Those are much better numbers for a "snack".

FYI:
Quick reference when reading labels...
8g sugar = About 2 teaspoons.

Hey Cake,

Paint diva here, from CK. I am planning a trip to sunny California in just four weeks and this looks wonderful. we will be renting a house on the beach, welcoming home my nephew from second tour of duty in Iraq, so the family is all meeting in San diego. I was dreading the airport/plane scenario and wondering if I can get this through the security area. It should work in plain clear bags. I am thinking of shipping a box with my fave things to the house and saving on luggage space and I could put the rest of the batch in there ! It would be handy for sight seeing ! Thanks !

What is wrong with sliced apples in foil wrap or whole apple, bananas, strawberries, home roasted unsalted peanuts, unsalted popcorn, plain almonds, raisins, plain yogurt, crackers and pretzels? Apart from less packaging, they are the least processed as well as easy to carry foods I can think of.
