Viña Montes: Purple Angel

Purple Angel
is a blend of 92% Carmenère and 8% Petit Verdot from the Colchagua Valley. It contains 14.5% Alcohol. During the 18 months of barrel aging in new French oak barrels, the wine is racked 3 times to get rid of lees, and allow some oxygen to interfere in the evolution and maturation of this wine.

We decanted for about 20 minutes… because we could not wait to try (recommended time was one hour)! The wine revealed notes of black cherry, raspberries, and blackberry, along with a little bit of saddle. Also, I was treated to this spread of cheeses and fruits by the person who helped me review the wine. We also grilled some kabobs (beef and shrimp with vegetables). Simple food so that the wine tasting could take centerstage. The retail price of this wine is about $60 (with shipping and whatnot). I really recommend it, (just in time for a Christmas gift) for the oenophile in your life.

Even my favorite cheese (parmigiano reggiano) was present!! Wow.
